Steve graduated from Leeds University with a law degree
in 1990. After passing his Law School exams at the Lancaster Gate College of Law in London, Steve then completed his articles
and became a qualified UK solicitor at Denton Hall solicitors, the international law firm now known as Denton
Wilde Sapte.
In 1994, he
moved into the music industry starting his career at Warner Music UK Limited ("WMUK"),
the UK affiliate of Warner Music Group, a Time Warner company ("WMG"). After four promotions in four years
he became Director of Business Affairs at WEA Records Limited, a division of WMUK. This
was a general legal and business affairs role with a focus on intellectual property rights and contracts where Steve was personally
responsible for the record company business affairs of major recording artists such as Seal and Cher.
In 2000, as Controller of Legal and Business Affairs
in the Strategy and Development Group of Carlton Television, an ITV company, Steve worked on a
wide range of broadcasting and production matters.
Steve returned to WMG in 2001 as the Director of Business and Legal Affairs at Warner
Music International, a Time Warner company ("WMI"). WMI, a division of WMG, operates in over 50 countries.
Steve's senior international role covered corporate, business and legal affairs.
In 2004, Steve joined Celador International Limited, a Sony
Pictures company ("CIL") in the senior management role of Commercial Director. CIL operates in
over 100 countries and specialises in the development, distribution and licensing of some of the world’s most successful
television and entertainment properties, including Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? Steve has pitched, negotiated and closed successful international television properties
such as Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, Roobarb & Custard and You Are What
You Eat. Steve has also pitched formats and programmes to global brands such as Coca Cola, Microsoft,
and Vodafone with a view to securing sponsorship and licensing
income and launched a branded entertainment consultancy.
Steve left CIL in September 2005 to launch Lazarus Consulting, which opened for business in October 2005.
Lazarus Consulting was renamed Lazarus Media in February 2008.
Between November 2008 and October 2009, Steve also held the position of Senior Director of
Business Development for Europe at MySpace/Fox Interactive Media Limited, a News Corporation company.
In February 2010 for a six month period, Steve was appointed to the role of Content Support Consultant
by Virgin Media Limited. He provided content support services for the launch of a new cross-platform video player which
beta-launched in July 2010.
Steve was a judge at the Broadcast Digital Awards 2009 and is a Brit Awards Voting
Academy Member.
